News

Pauline recently appeared locally at Gloucester Cathedral for a performance with the International Film Orchestra, playing a programme dedicated to the music of John Williams, to standing ovation.

Having resumed her private teaching practice for the new academic year, Pauline is pleased to announce that her String Players courses continue, with day and weekend course options available at request, throughout the year.

For any enquiries, please fill in the form on the contact page.

Since 2022, Pauline Starkey is embracing new projects to share her love of music and passion for teaching on a larger scale.

She is delighted to be offering a range of day courses held in the beautiful setting of the Cotswold town of Wotton-under-Edge, in Gloucestershire, for small groups of children, and adult learners or amateur string players.

Whether you live locally, or further afield, check out her Day Courses page for more information.

Learn alongside like-minded participants, develop your playing, musicianship, ensemble and performance skills, and share in the joy of music-making with others. You can choose from:

- chamber music coaching, days and weekends

- specific violin or viola only days

mixed violin and viola days

- violin-viola days, for those who learn both (and will play both on the same day)

Both pre-formed groups and individuals are welcome to apply for the chamber music courses and have the option of finishing with an informal concert. The violin-only course, the viola-only course and the violin-viola course typically include open lessons (in a masterclass format), workshops, ensemble work and the chance to perform solo, or as part of an ensembe, in a supportive environment.

All of these day courses are based on demand and run at weekends. Should they be of interest to you, please write to Pauline through the contact page to let her know and she will respond with more information. It would be most helpful if you could provide details of your or your child's instrument, approximate level, music experience, sight-reading ability, and approximate age, so that courses can be suitably tailored and participants matched to be of a similar level, as well as age group.

Before applying for the group courses, you may wish to consider signing up for either of the following - especially if you have had a long break from playing. This way, you can build up your confidence and test the waters with:

private half-day taster sessions

Check your level, suitability and stamina. These include a one-to-one lesson, sight-reading coaching and duet practise with Pauline. This is the perfect way to prepare for one of the longer, more intensive group courses.

private consultation lessons

These are available for any age or ability, and are tailored to you and your current goals, whether you wish to cover solo, chamber or orchestral work. They are also an ideal opportunity if you are seeking extra performance practise in front of a professional performer, along with honest feedback and constructive advice, in preparation for any music exams, auditions or competitions.

Use the contact page to enquire about any lessons, duet sessions,

day courses, gift vouchers, and performance bookings.

Work in progress...

Pauline Starkey is compiling her classically inspired compositions in preparation for publishing as sheet music, suitable for tuition and recitals. She is looking forward to performing more of her works on the violin and viola, with plans to record them onto CD, in order to produce her first album as composer and performer.

Pauline is also keeping busy arranging string duets, trios, quartets and quintets for  students of different levels and ages, in order to facilitate chamber music training days for her younger and older students in 2023.
